Welcome to Our

Fretz Family Genealogy

This website was first posted to Internet in 2001-2003 by Linton E. Love who by 2010 needed to reduce his genealogy activity. Concerned this information might not be available to other researchers he approached Mrs. Pat High of Jordan Station, Ontario, who is well acquainted with the history of the Mennonite families in the Niagara area. Pat agreed to become the webmaster of this and other websites involving local Mennonite families. We have not changed the content of this file so it will read as from the perspective of Linton Love

The research on John Fretz (Canada John) 1730-1826, as shown in this database was done on site in Bucks County, Pennsylvania and is supported by primary source material from Bucks County records. You will find in his Biographical Notes, the interesting quest to locate his old mill on Tohickon Creek. The surprise ending of this research was to find the ruins of his mill are now under the waters of Lake Nockamixon. This lake was created when they built a new dam on the Tohickon Creek which flooded the whole area.

Much of the rest of this file was automatically created by the Fretz connections with the intermarriages to other Mennonite families in the Vineland area of Ontario such as Rittenhouse, Hunsberger, Moyer, Fry, Kolb, Culp and others.

I owe many thanks to Mr. Walter Fretz, of Vineland who is the creator of the huge Fretz Index. He has worked many years on recording the Fretz families and their intermarriages. He kindly gave me access to his extensive files. Walter Fretz is now deceased and I would like to dedicate this website to his memory.

As of 21 April 2006, there are 6,693 Fretz related individuals in this database. I sincerely hope you will find some of your ancestors in these pages.

Please note this will be the last version Linton Love will be uploading to this website and I will not be adding any new information at the present time.
